OLD AUGUST 2001

August 31, 2001

I sent the Fletch:SE DVD petition to Universal on the 27th. The Petition reached 300, just the number I thought we'd need to be taken seriously. I emailed a short intro and list of all 300 names, email addys, and comments to both their general mail address and their corporate address. I will let you know as soon as I hear back from them. The Fletch Lives DVD petition still needs a few new names. It's over 170 right now.

It's short notice, but for those of you up late, Fletch will be on TNT today Thursday Night/Friday Morn 1:15 AM ( in about an hour). So if your on the computer working late or heading to bed...even edited..it's worthy as background noise to work or sleep to.

Sorry I have not updated in awhile...actually it's only been 5 days since the last update so that's not so bad. Hope everyone saw the "Fletch" Primetime Glick on Wed. Both Chevy and George Wendt were on. No excuse if you missed it :) Here are some pictures from it. Chevy made some funny faces in his short interview, and George Wendt was funny too. To see clips of Chevy go Here...for Wendt go here

Hey everyone. See I told you the Fletch news wouldn't slow down a bit.

Tero Nixion broke this quote in the MoooonRiver Message Board the other day.
Kevin Smith:
“We’re going to do a real character with no disguises and s**t like that. Yeah. It will be close to it (the book). Did you read FLETCH WON? I loved that book. I don’t even think we’re going to do a pass on the script. I’m just going to hand everyone the book and highlight the dialogue because it works perfectly." This kinda bummed me out a little cause without disguises, it's even father from the original movies. However, then I heard this...

I was able to hear some of the tape from Kevin on KROQ's radio station the other day and here is the word for word quote on Chevy and the movie...Some great news here and some new info too...

Kev: "Well the first book they did was based on a book by a guy named Gregory McDonald...and he wrote a series of them." (radio voice: 'Kevin's eating a muffin'). "I'm eating, I'm eating a muffin I feel so bad...So in the series of books, six or seven books, there's a book Fletch Won, W-O-N, and it's essentially the story of how he got a job on the paper, so you need a younger Fletch anyway. And we're trying to figure out a way to work in Chevy Chase. Which would require, I guess, a framing device where he's telling the story. So we'd start with him and then segway to Jason. But that's if he's willing to do it. (radio voice: 'How great was he in those movies?) "He was excellent. I mean, Chevy is a comedy god. (radio voice: 'Ever have any connection with him?") "Yeah,I spoke with him actually, and before this movie, we were gonna do a version of Fletch, at Universal many years ago called 'Son of Fletch' through 'Imagine Entertainment' and I just wound up working on Dogma, so it kinda fell apart. Then a few months later I read in the NY POST, they were doing like a '15 Years since Fletch' or something to that affect. And he (Chevy) was mouthing off about me, saying I was very 'Hollywood' that I said I'd do the movie and that I wouldn't do the movie. Yeah he was very stung and felt the need to go out and say some nasty things.

So there you have it. Kevin does want Chevy in Fletch Won. And also, the elusive "FLETCH 3" was going to be called "Son of Fletch." Makes you wonder what could have been.

Great news. Jake's interview with Gregory McDonald is finally up. Check it out by going to Laker Jim's Fletch Won Interviews

Next week is a super special Fletch Edition of Comedey Central's Primetime Glick. Chevy "Fletch" Chase will appear on Glick next Wednesday ( August 22 ). But also on the show is Fat Sam himself...George Wendt. Wow. What are the chances two Fletch stars would be on in the same week? I wonder if Glick is gonna tear Chevy apart? He's been known to do it, but i don't think he will. On the commercial Glick says "I love you Chevy Chase." I can't wait.

Also, Kevin Smith will be on Conan O'Brian tonight at 12:35.

Our good buddy Jake was lucky enough to meet Gregory McDonald the other day. In their interview Jake found out some great stuff. Like where did the name Fletch come from? Did McDonald intend on writing more than one Fletch book? Will he write more? Who was up for the role of Fletch before Chevy?

The answers to those questions will have to wait as Jake and I compile the question and answers from the interview and prepare them for the site. But what I will tell you now is that Mr. McDonald is just waiting for Kevin's next move. He (McDonald) loves the idea of Jason Lee as Fletch but has heard no word on if Chevy will be involved.

Right on cue, Rusty reports that Kevin Smith was on the world famous KROQ 106.7 in Los Angeles on Weds. A guy called in and asked him about Fletch. Kevin Smith said he would only do Fletch if Jason Lee would be in the movie. But he also said, that he wanted to have Chevy Chase as the story teller, portraying Jason Lee as a young Fletch. That is the first time, since his initial statements a year ago, that he has mentioned publicly about wanting Chevy in Fletch Won.

Good news on all fronts. Our site just passes 25,000 hits and The Gregory McDonald interview with Jake should be ready either tomorrow or Friday. So check back soon.

Ok, I didn't want to ruin the surprise for you, but for those of you that saw American Pie 2 this weekend hopefully recognized the Band Camp leader as GeorgeWyner (Gillet). He looks the same besides a little graying.

We have a few great Fletch Drawings sent in. Hurcstar has sent us in a great drawing of Fletch. Peter Lemonjello has sent in two great Fletch Lives scenes. I figured I should do one more, so I did one of Ben Dover. You can check them all out in the "Draw Fletch" Section or by clicking here. Don't forget to send in your Fletch drawings too.

There is a new Fletch Lives Script Update...sorta. Here is the complete update of Fletch in Jail with Ben Dover. It's at the bottom of section 4.

I've noticed that a bunch more people have signed the petitions and I have decieded I am going to compile all the signatures up at mid month and send them to Universal. So On August 15th, I'll mail em out. However, people can, AND SHOULD, still sign them because...should our plea get shot down, a second attempt will be stronger and have more signatures. It'd be nice to have 300 by the 15th.

Well, there has been some speculation that this site might fold due to the set back of the movie. This couldn't be further from the truth. This site will continue to be the premiere place for all your Fletch needs and news. The good thing about this site is that the majority of the news and content has to do with the original two films. I will continue to do my best to get you the latest of the Fletch front.

A good bit of news is that Kevin just emailed me about the interview. I asked him if he'd just do a "Fletch" interview with us now and a "Fletch Won" interview later. Kevin agreed."Give me 'til October.  Then the movie's out and out of my hair as well."

So that's not bad. October's not that far off....maybe we can actually squeeze in a few Fletch Won questions too...hehehe

August 7, 2001

Oh for gosh darn darn! Bad news Fletch fans. On a Washington radio station, Kevin Smith announced that Fletch Won WILL NOT be his next movie. He claims it's due to the fact that he does not want to release back to back comedies. The fact that Jason Lee is really burned out after about 4 movies in a row probably ties into it as well. His next film will be a "Chasing Amy-like" movie. This probably sets the movie back a year. In my estimation, the earliest we might see Fletch Won in late 2002/early 2003. As for my interview with Kevin, I'll have to get back to you guys. Maybe he'd sit down and answer some Fletch questions not regarding the Fletch Won. We'll have to see.

August 6, 2001

For those of you who watched the "Story Behind Caddyshack" on Saturday night and wondered like me how Chevy would look realized that the clips where Chevy speaks are old interviews. Chevy couldn't have looked worse. Check him out HERE. I believe his scenes were filmed around 1998 when this picture was also taken. His light brown/gray wig looked horrible, his eyes were sunken in and his face was very thin. However, the good part was Chevy spoke very openly and honestly. He admitted that when he was young he was "very full of (himself)" and then talked about his and Murray's fight. Murrary, never mentioned it.

There is a new section to the Fletch Lives Script (bottom of Section 4). In it Fletch meets Ben Dover and have a great reaction to the reason Ben is in jail that is not in the movie.

There is a new USA Network movie staring Terri Hatcher called "Jane Doe." It's about a woman who is framed for murder whilst rescuing her kidnapped son. The movie should air around November.

August 2, 2001

Hey everyone, Fletch news has been dead as of late. Two days ago News Askew posted a clip from Starz! Movie News. It headlines that "Kevin Smith fetches his own Fletch." This is the first time I've actually seen Kevin and Jason Lee talk about the film. I was gonna post it the other day but then Dark Horizons posted it and now it nearly impossible to play (there must be so much traffic to it cause I'm on a cable modem). So I'll just post here what they said and I'll post the link later in the week when it's running more smoothly. From the way Kevin talks here, it is very uncertain if Fletch will be next...

Kevin Smith: Um if it is going to be Fletch next, then it'd definitely going to be Lee. If it's not Lee it's not Fletch. And whether it's going to Fletch or something else that's a little more along the lines of Chasing Amy or something that's serious and dramatic at the same time. It's a toss up between those two. I'm still not sure which one to go with. I'm gonna take a few months off after the movie comes out cause we've been working hectic, pretty break-neck pace for the last eight months or so, so I'm gonna give myself a little break. Sit around the house and do allot of masturbating. And try to figure out what the next movie is gonna be.

Jason Lee: We're gonna have to do something totally different. It's tempting to wanna do what Chevy does or what Chevy did. But I think with it being younger and with it being Kevin, I'm really interested to see what he's gonna do with it...how he's gonna write it, how he's gonna do it, and what he's gonna want me to do.

Also, the June news has been filed in the Records Room.
